CDOT Road Usage Charge Program
In 2008, a state task force recommended that the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) consider a mileage-fee pilot program.
The task force made their recommendation after finding that the state’s gap in transportation funding was expected to grow to $51 billion by 2030. In 2013, CDOT published a feasibility study that examined mileage-fees in addition to a number of additional transportation financing options.
The report followed a lengthy public outreach process that included stakeholder interviews, workshops and focus groups.
Colorado launched a four month, 100 participant Road Usage Charge Pilot Program in December 2016 and will complete the pilot reporting in summer 2017.
Colorado joined RUC West as a member in 2014.
